The ‘Labharthi’ Focus: BJP’s Campaign Strategy

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up and strategizing battle plans to target states under Opposition rule. The campaign’s primary focus revolves around bringing to light alleged discrepancies in the delivery of the Centre’s flagship programs. Aiming to start strong, BJP has selected Kolkata as its inaugural campaign site. Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, is scheduled to address a public rally on Wednesday, shedding light on the perceived corruption and failures within the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led West Bengal government.

An Intense Political Tussle: Centre vs. State

The architects of the campaign, the BJP, seem to be strategizing around rebutting TMC’s accusations of the Central government’s discriminatory behaviors. To recap, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC had accused the Centre of withholding funds due to political discrepancies. These allegations precipitated protest marches in Delhi and Kolkata in October.

Reiterating its stance on transparency, the Centre has assured the West Bengal government that funds allocated under the MGNREGS rural job guarantee scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) will be released once they are “satisfied” with the state’s “transparency” levels. In a rebuttal to the Centre’s claims, BJP leaders have alleged that TMC has been misappropriating MGNREGS funds and failing to submit appropriate expenditure reports.

Anticipating a ‘Saffron Tsunami’

In anticipation of a dynamic campaign, State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar shared his optimistic outlook with The Indian Express. Majumdar confidently stated, “This is going to be a historic rally. The Home Minister will address it and the whole state will witness a saffron tsunami.” He also flagged this rally as the launch for BJP’s election preparations, indicating their intent to gear up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Given the intensive political strategies at play, the ensuing months are expected to witness a riveting political discourse.
