Insulation of a flat roof in Sydney
When Insulation of a flat roof is done with liquid polyurethane, it is enough to attach guides to the ceiling, between which it will foam. Spraying is carried out so that the insulation does not reach the edge of the sheathing. This space is used for ventilation and electrical wiring. The finishing material is attached to the top – drywall, plywood, and lining.
After this, the ceiling can be puttied and painted. Those who decide to install suspended ceiling structures should remember that they further reduce the height of the walls.
Preparing for roof insulation
No special preparation is required when insulating a flat roof from the inside. It is enough to clean the walls from dirt and dust and remove the existing finish, if any. To protect against mold and mildew, the rafter structure is coated with a special antiseptic solution and dried.
Since the roof will no longer “breathe” after insulation, a ventilation system must be provided in the insulated attic.
To keep the attic and the whole house warm, and to prevent condensation from forming on the ceiling and walls, you need to strictly follow the sequence of laying the layers of the “pie” from various materials.
First, a layer of waterproofing film (diffusion waterproof and windproof membrane) is placed between the elements of the rafter system. Laying is carried out across the rafter system with an overlap of 10 cm. In this case, you need to make sure that the material covers all the rafters. The film is attached to the rafter system with a rough surface towards the room using staples or nails. The material is laid with a slight sagging, compensating for thermal shrinkage in cold weather.
Then the insulating material is laid on the membrane between the rafters in two layers with a shift so that the top layer overlaps the joints of the bottom one. The size of the material is selected taking into account the distance between the rafters. If the rolls or slabs of insulation are wider, they are cut lengthwise or crosswise. Therefore, when using mat or roll insulation materials, waste is sure to remain. The electrical wiring running through the insulation is carefully insulated.
A layer of vapor barrier is nailed on top of the warm rolls or mats, preventing moisture from penetrating the room. In this case, it is also necessary to maintain tightness and lay the material with an overlap of 10 cm. The joints are taped. The entire “pie” is secured with sheathing bars nailed across the rafters.
If it is planned to make a room in the room in the future, plywood or plasterboard is attached to the sheathing, which is puttied, painted, or finished.
Many professional companies offer home insulation in Central Coast. They are experts in insulating walls, roofs, and floors. You can choose according to your needs.
Roof insulation from the inside with polyurethane foam
This material, sprayed directly onto the roof slopes from the attic side, eliminates many problems. Before using it, it is not necessary to treat the rafter system with an antiseptic, because Fungus and mold do not spread on the surface of the polyurethane foam.
In this case, a hydro- and vapor barrier layer is also not needed, since polyurethane foam repels moisture well. The material reliably adheres to almost any surface, so it does not require the installation of complex lathing systems. It is enough to apply polyurethane foam between the joists without filling the available space.

The resulting gap will serve as ventilation and a place for laying electrical cables. After drying, the polyurethane foam is covered with any finishing material.
Polyurethane foam lasts 50 years or more, therefore, once you have insulated your roof from the inside, you don’t have to worry that after a while you will have to remove the insulation and do the work again.
When using polyurethane foam, there is no waste left and there is no need to purchase various adhesives, tape, and fasteners. The material dries quickly, so the next day you can cover it with finishing material and carry out interior finishing.
